6 TIPS: FEEL GOOD DURING THE HOLIDAYS!

I know the holidays can feel stressful and we are all looking for ways to stay healthy and stay on track while still enjoying parties, gatherings, coping with our families (JK) etc…

  1. DON’T STRESS. Holidays and the festivities that follow are huge stressors for so many of us. Stop overthinking the holiday and don’t use them as an excuse to eat differently than you usually do. That’s not what the holidays are about. Gather your friends and family and HAVE FUN!

  2. PLAN AHEAD. If you know you have a party to attend and aren’t sure what will be offered for food, plan ahead. Eat a small meal before you go so you don’t show up starving and making poor choices. You can also plan to contribute and bring an option you know is on your meal plan. Load up your plate on that, take a little of the other items.

  3. DON’T SKIP MEALS. We all know when we haven’t eaten all day, we’ll just about grab anything in sight. It’s never a good idea to skip meals but especially when running around to holiday parties with loads of buffets around.

  4. WATCH YOUR GLASS. A glass of eggnog can set you back 500 calories. Wine, beer, and mixed drinks range from 150 to 225 calories. Skip it or if you drink alcohol, have a glass of water or juice-flavored seltzer in between drinks.

  5. SPLURGE. Allow yourself a treat. Don’t turn one treat into a treat week. But if you want something, have it, enjoy it and move on. If you’re feeling restricted, you are likely to unintentionally overeat other things to distract yourself. You may wind up eating way more than if you just had the darn cookie!

  6. SLEEP. Just because you’re off work, or kids are off school. Don’t push your bed time back too far! Sleep is still just as important as any other day. Decreased energy, increased stress can all lead to making unhealthy choices.

Enjoy yourself! Happy Holidays, friends!
